Introduction

This work of reference has been designed as an online distance learning unit, which may be freely accessed at any time through the ORION project web pages. It can be used at entry level for first-time students, whether at university or colleges, as a life-long learning unit for re-training purposes, or as a work of reference at any level.



Aims

  • to provide a basic and accessible store of knowledge on fish, shellfish and crustacean measurements and measurement parameters for those entering this field of study for the first time

  • to provide a set of definitions relating to the measurement parameters



How the materials are arranged

The content is arranged in three sections (fish, shellfish, crustaceans) which cover the subject base comprehensively. Since each item is programmed separately as a hot text item, it may be entered at any point (type of measurement, definition) required by the user, as in any work of reference.

The materials themselves comprise a comprehensive glossary of terms all of which are hot text items which can immediately be called up by the user.
